Elsevier published 6 fake journals

Scientific publisher Elsevier admitted it has brought out six "journals" between 2000 and 2005 that were sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and looked like peer-reviewed journals.

In search of New Software!!!

The project on E-Publishing and Knowledge System in Agricultural Research (EPKSAR) is developing a software for the e-journal publications, production, archival for the communication link among information generators i.e. public research organizations, and its users. Does this case is an example of reinventing the wheel for the sake of rights on the IP created? Though Human Genome Project is in Public Domain, there are many Patents on it by some Private firms.

Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Association of India

Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Association of India (MAPAI) is formally launched on its date of registration 24th December 2008. The MAPAI has its registered office at National Research Centre for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (NRCMAP), Boriavi, Anand 387310, Gujarat. Shortly it is going to publish Open Access Journal of Medicinal and Aromtic Plants from the Server of OKS.

Free Software, Free Society

Second International Conference on Freedom in Computing, Development and Culture starts on 9th December 2008 at Mascot Convention Center, Thiruvananthapuram.

Many celebrities of Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) and Open Access (OA) movements will make their presence in this conference. To name a few of them are Richard Matthew Stallman, Jimmy Wales, Eben Moglen, Subbiah Arunachalam and Adam Arvidsson. The Conference will have three tracks - Technology, Culture and Policy. Berlin 6 Open Access Conference, 11-13 November 2008

Five years ago, researchers from a wide range of disciplines came together to draft the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, which stressed the significance of unrestricted access to research results via the Internet for the future of academic publishing.

Thank you all for the support extended to us (NRCMAP). Now the baby is going to be born shortly! The latest entry into the Open Access Journals from Agriculture field is going to be from NRCMAP. We are going to register a society in the name of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Association of India and is going to publish first Open Access Journal form ICAR institute on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. Wish us all the best. The tile of the Journal shall be 'Open Access Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants OAJMAP' Hope to receive the support for its successful launch.

First Issue of OAJMAP Published

Open Access Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants has just published its
latest issue at http://www.ojs.oksociety.in/index.php/oajmap. The papers will be added and published till 30th June 2010 in this first issue.
