Ford Ecosport Overview
The American automaker Ford has given a new lease of life to its compact SUV EcoSport in the form of latest version. This is the car which turned the fortunes for the brand when it was first launched in the Indian market in 2013. The new Ford EcoSport is a refreshed version of the four-year old vehicle with a bunch of changes at exteriors, interiors and under the hood.Ford has entirely revamped the front of the new EcoSport with main highlights including projector headlamps with LED DRLs, large grille and refreshed bumper design to give it a muscular look. Turn around a little and you will find new 17-inch alloy wheels while the rear has been given mild touches on the bumper. Rest the practical aspect of the car remains unchanged.
The insides of the car have been seriously worked upon by the automaker following customer feedbacks. The dashboard now looks clutter free and convenient as compared to the earlier model. The company has answered the call of the customers by giving an all-black theme to the cabin. The new additions also include instrument cluster with central display and the new steering wheel carried from the international model.
What’s more interesting is the inclusion of new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with Ford’s own SYNC3 technology. There are also 2 USB ports for charging the personal tech stuffs. Another area that has been rightly addressed by the company is the front and rear seats which are now more comfortable and supportive. And top of it, features like automatic headlamps, speed sensing auto door locks, rain sensing wiper, cruise control and strong cover of six airbags in the top end variant can satisfy the need of any road adventurer.
Under the hood, you will not find earlier 4-cylinder petrol unit, instead there is an all-new 1.5L 3-cylinder engine which produces 123PS and 150Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to either 5-speed manual or new 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The diesel engine on the other hand, remains untouched with the 1.5L motor making 100PS and 205Nm of max torque mated to 5-speed manual transmission. In terms of fuel efficiency, the car remains on par with the competition. Where the petrol powered variant can deliver ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17kmpl, diesel version can return excellent mileage of 23kmpl. Check for Ford Ecosport price in Hyderabad at CarBing.
Ford Ecosport Style
The Ford EcoSport features an all-new front where the highlight is the new grille with chrome slats that give it a more sporty stance and is a bit similar to the Mustang too. The new headlamps with LED DRLs and projector headlamps along with the sharp fog lamps give the EcoSport a chiseled look that goes along well with its sporty positioning. The new bonnet and bumper too add to the dynamic stance of the new EcoSport and give it a more premium look than the older model.
As one moves to the side and eventually the rear, it becomes clear that not much has changed here. The new 17-inch alloy wheels do look impressive and are in sync with the EcoSport’s positioning but the silhouette remains unchanged. At the rear too, it’s the spare alloy wheel with the new design that’s different but almost everything else is the same as seen on the older model.
Overall, the new Ford EcoSport has grown in terms of design appeal and looks much better and sporty than its predecessor. It retains the SUV feel without wearing a boxy body and that has to be the main appeal of its design. However, designers could have given it a bit more differentiation at the side and rear considering the new EcoSport is already late to the market and is going up against the extremely tough competition.
Ford Ecosport Space
instantly make out that most things have changed and the party piece is the 8-inch floating touchscreen. I’ll discuss the screen first as it is a brilliant unit! The touch response is fluid and better than the competition and visibility under sunlight too is good. The unit comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but doesn’t have in-built satellite navigation but can display your phone’s navigation. Other connectivity options include two USB port, two 12V sockets, and AUX-in.
Based on feedback from Indian consumers, the seats in the new Ford EcoSport have been redesigned and are now wider and have better cushioning. The dashboard itself is new and looks more modern than the older model’s and is well-built too. All controls are placed within easy reach of the driver and the screen itself is quite close to the steering, making it easy to use all controls.
There are enough storage compartments inside the cabin to store objects such as smartphones, wallet, coins and other small items. Like the front seats, the rear seat too has improved cushioning and offers good under thigh and back support. The backrest incline angle too is nice and will keep occupants comfortable provided there are limited to a count of two. The fact that the legroom too is less than the key competitors makes it hard for a third passenger to squeeze in. The front centre armrest too east into rear legroom for the middle passenger and hence taller occupants might have issues with legroom but headroom being better should be less of an issue. To know more info on Ford Ecosport visit Industrynewswire
The boot volume has now been increased by 30 litres and with the foldable rear seats, total volume can be increased to 1,178 litres. There’s also a smart removable base lid, which can be slightly raised to create a cavity that can be used to store precious belongings such as laptops or tablets away from unwanted eyes.
Overall, the interior has been given an impressive upgrade as not only have the surroundings become more comfortable but the tech too has got smarter. Storage spaces too have been well-designed and the only thing that does fall behind the competition is rear space, which will be bothersome only to tall occupants. I’m 172 cm tall for reference and did not run out of legroom despite having the driver’s seat adjusted to my height.
Ford Ecosport Gearbox
As already mentioned, the EcoBoost engine is not new to the EcoSport and unlike its other powertrains, this one continues to be imported from Europe and Ford hasn’t changed it a lot either. In fact, the three-cylinder turbocharged engine is still as peppy as ever and eager now, and a big credit for that goes to the brand new six-speed manual gearbox which replaced the previous 5-speed unit and currently offered only with the EcoBoost engine. With that one additional ratio on offer, the power delivery is much smoother now and you start to feel the surge as early as 3,000 rpm, while all the 123 horses come into action once the needle crosses the 6,000 rpm mark. The torque output also remains unchanged at 170 Nm, although, it kicks in as early as 2,000 rpm, and there is ample of it till you reach 4,500 rpm and the SUV also has a strong mid-range. The new gearbox is also quite responsive and shifts are quick and precise, having said that, you still have to work the gearbox a tad bit in order to extract the best performance from the car.
The new Ford EcoSport claims to sip low. The 1.5L petrol delivers ARAI certified mileage figures of 17kmpl when paired with five-speed manual gearbox and 14.8kmpl when paired with 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s another 1.5L diesel engine mated to 5-speed manual gearbox returns 23kmpl of mileage.
Ford Ecosport Riding
As for the ride and handling, the suspension on the EcoSport S is set slightly on the stiffer side to give the SUV that sporty feel, although not so much that it breaks your back every time you encounter the slightest undulations on the road. In fact, during our search for a scenic spot to shoot the car we had to drive the EcoSport through some pretty rough patches and broken roads and though the ride was quite bumpy, the SUV went through those rough roads nice and easy without breaking a sweat. Having said that, it’s on the highways or the concrete roads, where the EcoSport S truly feels more at home. In fact, even when you chuck the SUV into a corner, it feels quite planted with minimal body roll. Even the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels are quite controlled, which makes the cabin quite a pleasant place to be in and one of the reasons for it is the EcoBoost engine itself, which is essentially a quiet engine. However, if you listen carefully, at times you can hear the distinctive humming of the three-cylinder engine once you cross 3,500 rpm, but after a while, it doesn’t really bother you that much.
Ford Ecosport Safety
The presence of Anti-lock braking system (ABS) along with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) balances the brake force in front and rear wheels that avoids the wheels from locking. So, one enjoys great control as well as stability if the car stops in a hurry. In the safety department, dual airbags and ABS with EBD are offered standard across the range while the top end model gets 6 airbags tech like tyre pressure monitoring system. Other safety features include hill launch assist, speed sensing auto door locks, Ford Mykey, Emergency Assist and traction control.

Ford Ecosport Final Word
The new Ford EcoSport is a good example of how consumer feedback can help engineers address many practical issues, especially those related to India. While design changes are only limited to the front primarily, the changes inside the cabin and under the hood (petrol version) are impressive. Ford has also ensured a rich list of convenience and safety features across the variant range, which should add to its competitiveness. In a nutshell, the new Ford EcoSport delivers well on most parameters that Indian buyers are looking for presently. So while it is a technically-sound vehicle, it’s ability to succeed again will depend a lot on the pricing, which will be announced on 9th November.
